STOP Hair Loss and Regain Healthy Hair
Every individual craves for healthy and beautiful looking hair, wishing and hoping for lustrous locks that would not diminish with age. The hair is often what people will notice first and it is our daily boost of confidence. That is why the hair is known as our crowning glory.
Hair Fall is generally thought to be a condition associated with advanced age. However, studies showed that the younger generations are losing their hair much earlier than the older generations. These groups of younger generations are the millennials. Even reports from the hair specialists indicate that there is a rise in the number of people in their late teens or early 20s who are experiencing hair loss problems.
Our hair, skin and blood vessels formed a complex structure of the hair follicle. A hair follicle is a tunnel-shaped structure in the outer layer of the skin. Our hair cycle consists of 3 phases; anagen, catagen and telogen phase.
Anagen phase is the growing phase of the hair. The growth phase is the longest phase in a healthy hair cycle, which lasted for 6 years. From the growing phase, the hair then moves on to the catagen phase.
Catagen is the dying phase of the hair, which lasts only up to 6 weeks. In this phase, blood supply will be cut off to the hair and this causes the hair to die.
Finally, the hair cycle will move to the telogen phase, the resting phase of the hair follicles. During this phase, the hair follicle is completely at rest. Without nourishment and blood supply, the hair dies and falls off. This phase can last up to 6 months.
Telogen effluvium is the second most common form of hair fall. It is characterized by excessive shedding after experiencing a major life event. Telogen effluvium occurs when there is a disturbance in the normal hair cycle. Majority of our hair is in the growth (anagen) phase while only a small amount is in the resting (telogen) phase. In this type of hair fall problem, most of the hair is pushed into the resting phase prematurely. Thus, more hair starts to fall off from the root and slower hair growth from the hair follicle.
Telogen effluvium occurs after a life changing event that happened to the body. This type of hair fall is usually caused by stress, childbirth, poor nutrition, sudden weight loss, severe illness, underlying health condition, certain medication and thyroid disorder. When the body is significantly stressful either physically or emotionally, it sends the energy to the vital organs such as the brain, the heart and the kidneys.
This ensures the body is able to respond to the stress through the fight or flight process. The hair is not necessary for the fight or flight process to manage stress. So, the body takes the energy away and directs it to the vital organs. Since the hair is the fastest growing cells in the body, energy deprivation will lead to accelerated hair loss. Usually hair loss will occur 3 months after the stressful event or trauma.
People with a healthy hair cycle lose about 100 strands of hair daily. However, in telogen effluvium, hair loss can go up to 300 to 500 strands of hair per day. When the hair fall gets more pronounced, they will start noticing clumps of hair in the bathroom or their pillows. People experiencing telogen effluvium will still go through all the 3 phases of hair cycle. However, in telogen effluvium, the growth phase gets shorter each time. Re-balancing the hair cycle by moving it to stay longer in the growth phase ensures the hair grows stronger and healthier.
The Hair Super Nutrients
Nourishing the hair is as important as nourishing the body. New research discovered that pea sprouts extract have the ability to impact hair growth. It is the type of superfood that one should look out for to regain their lustrous locks. Pea sprouts provide more nutritional value and hold a whole lot of benefits for the hair. Pea sprouts were selected for a healthy hair growth cycle due to their high levels of phytonutrients. They are very nutritious to feed both the scalp and hair with essential nutrients and revitalize the hair from the root.
Organic pea sprouts extract from Anagain™ is a natural hair growth enhancer. It has the ability to increase the number of hair in the growth (anagen) phase while reducing the number of hair in the resting (telogen) phase. A study demonstrated that 1/3 of the volunteers using Anagain™ reported their hair loss decreased within the first month of use. After 2 months of consumption, 95% of them noticed their hair loss has slowed down, with improvement in the look of their hair. Anagain™ stimulates two specific and important signal molecules to reactivate hair growth. By reactivating hair growth, Anagain™ helps the hair to retain their original density and thickness. It increases the ratio of hair growth phase to resting phase. It shortens the resting (telogen) period of the hair cycle while increasing the growing (anagen) phase. Hence, pea sprouts extract is able to re-balance the hair growth cycle.
Bamboos are the fastest growing plants in the world due to their high content of silica. The plant is packed with natural silica, as much as 70% of silica. Silica is a nutrient that is integral in hair growth. Panda has an insatiable appetite for bamboo. Thus, explain their lustrous fur. Due to high silica content in bamboo, it has a variety of benefits on the hair which may include stronger hair and restoring the natural sheen of the hair.
Another 5 very important hair nutrients are L-cysteine, zinc, biotin, vitamin B5 and vitamin C. L-cysteine is the main building block for keratin, the most abundant protein found in the hair. It improves hair strength, hair quality, enhances hair density and reduces hair loss in individuals with brittle hair. Its antioxidant property protects the hair from the effects of the sun UV rays. Zinc is another well-known nutrient for the hair. It increases the hair follicle proliferation. Zinc deficiency is linked with extensive hair loss and formation of thin, brittle hair.
Biotin or vitamin H is becoming increasingly well-known as a hair supplement. The benefits of biotin supplements include healthier scalp and is linked to hair growth since it assists in the production of keratin, the hair protein. Vitamin B5, otherwise known as pantothenic acid works with other hair nutrients to rebuild the individual hair shafts. It is often referred to as the anti-stress vitamin because of its ability to regulate the stress hormone. Stress has a negative impact on hair pigmentation and strength.
Vitamin C is well-known to improve the immune system and for fighting colds and flus. It can also help to maintain stronger and more supple hair. Due to its high antioxidant content, vitamin C is able to fight off the free radicals that lead to brittle hair and cause damages to the hair follicles. Vitamin C also increases collagen production in the body. Collagen plays a key role in maintaining the function of the hair follicles.
